Abuja LEA strike: MAIJPED Initiative unveils intervention lesson for pupils

Apparently, to reduce the negative impact of the ongoing strike by FCT Local Education Authority (LEA) teachers in primary schools, the Mai Jagora Peace And Development (MAIJPED) Initiative says it’s launching an intervention to support the affected pupils.
MAIJPED, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) explained that the project, which is tagged: ‘The FCT Primary Schools Strike Intervention Lesson’, aims to keep pupils focused on their education during the period of uncertainties.
The Executive Director of MAIJPED Initiative, Muntasir Jibrin Mohammed, who made this known yesterday, however called for the resolution of the striking situation, so that the concerned children would return to various public schools, and continue their education without further delay.
He said: “Our project, the FCT Primary Schools Strike Intervention Lesson, aims to keep pupils focused on their education during this period of uncertainty.
“We believe that education for all is the responsibility of all,” and it is in this spirit that our organization is stepping in to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of these young learners.
“The FCT Primary Schools Strike Intervention Lesson will commence (today) 24th Sept, 2024.
“So, through this initiative, we hope to alleviate some of the challenges caused by the strike and ensure that the children continue learning despite the ongoing disruption.
“We also stand in solidarity with the affected parents and local communities, using the hashtag #PayOurParentsSoOurChildrenWillLearn to call for the resolution of the situation so that the education of our children can continue without further delay.”
PeoplesDaily recalls that primary school teachers in public schools under the umbrella of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) FCT Wing had last week embarked on an indefinite strike over non payment of their outstanding entitlements and other unresolved industrial issues.
The Union in a communiqué signed by State (FCT) Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Shafa, and issued at the end of the State Wing Executive Council (SWEC) meeting of the NUT FCT Wing held in Abuja, said it resolved and directed all the primary school teachers in the Territory to resume the suspended strike action with effect from last week’s Wednesday.
