President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appealed to Abuja residents and road users, to protect road infrastructure, obey traffic rules and keep public assets with respect.
Tinubu noted that the road and other infrastructure belong to everyone, and to generations yet unborn.
He spoke yesterday at the commissioning of the Newly Constructed 16 kilometre Right-Hand Service Carriageway of Inner Northern Expressway (INEX) from Ring Road 3 (RR3) to Outer Northern Expressway (Murtala Mohammed Expressway).
The President, in his speech read by the Deputy Senate President (DSP), Barau Jibrin, said the infrastructure is a critical piece of the Federal Capital Territory’s master plan, designed to ease traffic flow, enhance connectivity and improve urban mobility for millions of commuters, residents and businesses in the city.
He added that it is a symbol of progress and a reflection of our administration’s rehabilitation agenda, which is committed to building infrastructure that serves the people, unlocks economic potentials and supports sustainable development.
According to him , as traffic volume increases in the FCT, and across the satellite towns, it has become imperative for continuous expansion and maintenance of critical routes.
“This road will not only decongest key junctions, but also facilitate safer, faster movement within Abuja’s transportation corridors. It will open more opportunities for businesses, housing and investments in the adjoining districts.
“It is quite apt to say that projects like these are a testament to what we can achieve when planning, execution and leadership align with purpose.
“We are determined to replicate these in every part of the country with roads, bridges, railways and more, ensuring that no region is left behind.
“I commend the FCT administration led by the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for his vision, commitment to quality and timely execution. You have contributed to something larger than the roadway. You have contributed to the future of our capital”, he stated.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, Wike, revealed that the road that goes from Idu to Zuba road was awarded to Salini Nig ltd in 2014 at a cost of 7 billion Naira, 7 billion Naira, but was later increased to 31 billion Naira, because of inflation and variations.
He added that the major part of area is earmarked as the industrial site of Abuja, that will create not less than 40,000 direct jobs.
He said: “When we were inaugurated in August 2023, I was able to come to this place. Passing through Idu, it was difficult for anybody to say you will continue with this project
“But, it’s been the policy of Mr. President under the renewed hope agenda to continue with projects that would be impactful on the lives and economy of our people.”
On her part, FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud also noted that project will no doubt enhance connectivity, boost commerce, and improve the daily lives of residents.
She, therefore, prayed that the project would serve as a symbol of collective determination to build a better, more connected, and more prosperous Nigeria under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
