The national leadership of Accord has condemned the killing of Kolade Eluyera, son of the party’s Woman Leader in Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State.

The party described the killing as “barbaric and outrageous”, alleging that political thugs linked to the All Progressives Congress were behind the attack.

National Chairman of Accord, Maxwell Mgbuden, made the allegation in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.

According to him, Eluyera was killed on Friday near Onireke Mosque in Ikire.

Mgbuden said the deceased was murdered because of his association with Accord and his mother’s growing popularity in Irewole Local Government.

He said, “It is outrageous and barbaric that a young man would be murdered by political thugs to silence his mother who is a popular Accord woman leader in Irewole Local Government.

“The party is devastated over the cruel murder of a promising young man whose only offence was being a member of Accord.”

The party called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those behind the killing.

Accord also accused APC-linked thugs of harassing its members and destroying public properties, Imole campaign materials and party billboards across the state.

The statement added, “Security agencies should be proactive to ensure the safety of the people in this electoral season.

“We are deeply saddened over the failure of security agencies to prevent this bloodshed, harassment of our members and destruction of public properties.”

The party insisted it would continue to resist violence and anti-democratic tendencies ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.

Accord also declared support for Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing him as “a servant-leader with abundant milk of human kindness.”

The party urged residents of Osun State to reject vote-buying and support issue-based politics during the forthcoming governorship poll.
