The Taraba State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project has taken a significant step in promoting environmental sustainability by organizing a tree planting campaign at the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC) Jalingo.

Speaking at the event, the Project Coordinator ACReSAL in the State, Dr. Yakubu Clement Giwa said the mission of ACReSAL was to tackle environmental challenges in the College.

Giwa, who was represented by the Forest Management Officer, Chifang Rimamkanati explained that ACReSAL State executives were at the college to teach the students some possible ways of planting trees beginning from the seedlings.

“We have taken the campaign against environmental challenges to the college by teaching the students some possible ways of planting trees using the seedlings.

“We encouraged the students to plant the seedlings and make sure that the seedlings planted are nurtured to grow well”, he said.

ACReSAL mission is greening the environment and saving lives, the trees when grown will provide fresh air, serve as protection against wind, (prevent strong and hard wind from destruction of buildings”,

“The tress when fully grown will become economic trees that will provide fruits for the students”,

“What we are doing now is post nursery, From primary nursery to post nursery). Before we commence planting, we do what we call measurements to know the number of hectares of land to be used i.e. (100m×100m) all amounts to 1 meter”, he noted.
