The Adamawa state Houses of Assembly members have ordered Governor Murtala Nyako to pay workers their unpaid June Salaries with immediate effect or face the wrath of the legislatures.
During the plenary session yesterday, under matters of public importance, the member representing Hong constituency, Mr. Wafarniyi lambasted the government for subjecting civil servants of the state to “untold hardship”, following their failure to pay two months’ salary arrears, which the government owes the state workers when they embarked on strike in 2011.
“We have prevailed on the government to pay the workers the months salaries but to no avail. Despite that, they also refused to pay workers the June salary.
“On this note, the House ought to take serious action to salvage and assist the people that we are representing including the state civil servants.
The House unanimously resolved that the state government should with immediate effect pay the salary as it also commended the anti graft agency, EFCC for freeze the state accounts.
Also contributing, the deputy speaker, Kwaomoti La’ori concurred that there was money available for the payment of salary despite the freezing of the state’s accounts by the EFCC.
“Although, it has been in the news that Adamawa state’s account has been frozen, but I heard it on good authority that money is available for salary. The salary account had not been freezed. They have no any reason or rationale to hold workers’ salaries,” he submitted.
In his submission, member representing Fufore –Gurin, Mr. Ibrahim Sadiq Dasin averred that what is happening in Adamawa calls for sober reflection as, “the cry of the people should be our concern. We most speak on their behalf and try to address their concern.
While announcing the resolution the speaker of the state Assembly, Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri said that ‘’the state government without further delay pay June salary immediately for the fact that the salary account and the running cost account have been de-freeze.
“We also support the EFCC sealing of the capital projects account,” he said.
