Pandemonium has ensued between the Mayo-belwa community and officials of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) over removal and evacuation of a 75MVAR/330KV(T&R) shunt reactor at Mayo-belwa transmission substation in Yola, Adamawa state.
Reports from the area indicated that trouble started on Saturday 18th January, 2025 when members of the Mayo- belwa community plying the major high way by the entrance of the town noticed usual presence of three (3) articulated vehicles (trailers)inside the substation’s facility with some unknown people busy dismantling the electric reactor and its components.
The situation generated serious tension and suspicion among residents of Mayo-belwa local government area and was reported to the Concerned Citizens Association of Mayo-belwa Community who immediately mobilized to the site of the facility and vehemently resisted the evacuation of the said equipment.
After fruitless efforts to have their way, officials of the TCN,Yola sub-region led by the Assistant General Manager, AGM. Engineer Mustapha Hassan solicited for the attention of the local government council through the executive council chairman, Hon.Umaru Nashion Gubi where an interface was scheduled for Monday 20th January.
During the meeting presided over by the Vice Chairman of Mayo-belwa local government area, Hajiya Hauwa Ndittijo Yarima with the Officials of TCN,Yola-Sub regional office, members of local government legislative council and the Concerned Citizens Association executives,the matter was scrutinized without reaching acceptable resolution.
In his submission, TCN Yola-Sub regional office, Engineer Mustapha Hassan explained that the stunt reactor or adaptor would be evacuated to Jebba transmission substation, Jebba sub region in Niger state to improve supply to the national grid.
