Some members of the Adamawa state peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) have protested at the state command headquarters of the Directorate of State Security Services (DSS) to protest the arrest and continued detention of three of their members by the service over election related issues.
The party’s protestors stormed office of the Service (DSS) in Yola ,Wednesday demanded release of three of their members saying that held for almost a week without litigation is breach of their fundamental human rights as guaranteed by the Constitution.
It was gathered that the affected persons who were alleged illegally detained without trial include Yusuf Mohammed, Zira John and Solomon Abafras.
The protesters who started the protest from State Headquarters of the PDP through Justice Buba Ardo Road to the DSS office in Yola where they presented their complaint letter.
Leading the protesters, the State Chairman of PDP, Barrister Tahir Shehu said the protest became necessary as their members were in detention since Wednesday last week.
He said their detention was beyond the time the constitution stipulates as according to him every Nigerian has a fundamental human right not to be kept in police custody for 48 hours.
The State Chairman, said the DSS after receiving their complaint letter has assured to carry out investigation on the said members and do the needful as quickly as possible.
Those in custody were arrested as a result of the aftermath of the recent governorship election controversies in the state where they were Said to be figured by security operatives to be among those accused of causing violence and assaulting Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) officials as well as other innocent citizens.
