In an effort to mitigating further spread of cholera pandemic, the Adamawa state government has commenced fumigation of residential areas and culverts across the state.
Flagging off fumigation exercise in the state capital weekend,Commissioner of Environment and Natural Resources Development, Hon. Sadiq Mohammad said cleaning the environment is part of social services.
Mohammad advised the public to ensure that they ensure personal hygiene as well as the cleanliness of their surroundings, noting the reintroduction of the monthly sanitation exercise.
He added that, the fumigation, which is conducted by Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources is to curb the outbreak of cholera to prevent further spread.
During the sanitation exercise held on Saturday, Dr. Umar Garba Pella, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, led government officials and a Task Force in monitoring and enforcing the sanitation exercise.
Pella expressed regret over the recent cholera outbreak that has claimed almost twenty (20) lives, lamenting that many diseases stem from unclean environments.
Pella highlighted that the September sanitation exercise is dedicated to combating cholera, hence the fumigation efforts and warned that government will not tolerate anyone hindering its mission to restore cleanliness and dignity to the state.
