Lagos Lawyer and Human Rights Activist, Chief Gabriel Giwa-Amu has said that in spite of some noticeable lapses, Nigeria still has some wonderful and excellent Judges in its Judiciary system.
In a telephone chat with our correspondent in Lagos after the court pronouncement that dismissed the acting Governor of Adamawa State,Umaru Fintiri and installed the embattled Deputy Governor, Bala Ngaliri, Amu noted that there is often wrong opinion of the assessment of the judiciary stressing that the judiciary has suffered immeasurably in terms of lack of confidence and integrity in the eye of the Nigeria people, a situation he traced to the loss of respect for the executive, which unfortunately has rubbed off the judiciary.
His words “We have wonderful and excellent judges radiating salubrious judgment from ebullient minds and high sense of integrity which is what was displayed in the case of the Adamawa State on the governorship crisis”
Speaking further, he described the judgment as a fine judgment and a lesson to those who engage in legislative rascality and abuse of power, a lesson for those who Nigerians were told they voted for who unfortunately are persons of no intelligence. This judgment is indeed an eye opener he said excitingly.
On the ousted acting governor appealing the judgment that sent him packing, Amu noted that he has merely exercised his right as any other Nigerian could have done, stressing that no reasonable Judge will watch a State burn in the inferno of political instability.
