Adamawa govt denies privatization of state hospital

The Adamawa state Government has refuted speculation being peddled in the state that, it’s oldest owned General Hospital (Now known as Yola Specialist Hospital) has been privatized to individuals saying it only fast rack process of uplifting the hospital for good health services to people.
Commissioner of Health,Dr. Fatima Atiku Abubakar made the refutal at a press briefing on the update of cholera outbreak in the state in Yola, weekend, explaining that in line with the state of emergency declared by Governor Muhammad Umaru Jibrilla’s administration on the health sector, the government resolved to enter into public private partnership for robust rehabilitation of the hospital.
Dr.Abubakar said the state government is partnering Bank of Industry Plc to upgrade the hospital in to world class standardized health outlet infrastructure in which a massive face lifting will be given to the facility so as to have good health delivery services.
Abubakar added that since the establishment of the hospital in 1958,the existing law backing it legally have not been put in to proper perspective until last week when Governor Jibrilla signed the act in to law.
On the update of the cholera outbreak in Mubi North and Mubi south Local government areas of the state,Abubakar said since report of the outbreak in May 2018,all sectors of the emergency operations center were activated including; coordination, surveillance,case management, water sanitation and hygiene, logistics and risk communication.
She announced that with these collaborative efforts the fatality rate of the outbreak has drastically dropped from 17% to 1.8% noting that a total of 909 including 16 deaths were recorded in the two local councils.
According to her the success story was possible with the solid support of the Ministry partners like WHO,UNICEF,MSF and Solitaire.
“As a result of this collaborative efforts, the case fatality ratio of the outbreak,which was 17 per cent as at 12th May,was drastically reduced to 1.8 percent as at 1st June .

While declaring that General Hospital Mubi has been designated as the cholera treatment centre in the state.
The commissioner charged stakeholders like traditional leaders, religious leaders,as well as the media to intensified efforts in sensitizing the public on strict observance of cholera preventive tips.
“General public are hereby encourage to observe cholera preventive and control measures such as using clean water and hygienically prepared food intake,hygiene promotion as well as washing hands with soap and water after defection.
“Communities are advised to use water purified using purification tablets while neigbouring communities are also encouraged to adopt cholera preventive measures,” said Dr.Abubakar.
