Adamawa: Notorious drug addict dies in ‘Ogogoro’ drinking competition

The residents of Bachure, a suburb housing retired military personnel in Adamawa State were thrown into mourning as a result of the death of a notorious drug addict who has been terrorizing people in the area.

Investigation by our correspondent in Yola revealed that on Saturday the deceased simply identify as Yusuf Bachure engaged his female friend into Alcohol drinking competition as a way to celebrate their Christmas festivity.

The competition took place at a local Beer parlour in the area where the duo (Yusuf and his girl friend) challenged themselves into consumption of a gallon of locally made intoxicant called “Ogogoro” which half way in to the context Yusuf became unconscious and was shouting complaining of pains in his stomach.

When spectators around noticed the scenario, they rushed him to the hospital but he kicked the bucket on the way only to return his lifeless body to his family compound at Bachure.

Peoples Daily’s visit to the area saw neighbors in groups discussing about the incident which shocked everybody on receiving the news of Yusuf Bachure’s death despite the fact they consider him as a nuisance.

Some residents interviewed under condition of anonymity regretted the way the deceased ended his life in shame leaving his relations and friends with a scar of wound on their hearts.

Some said, they say it coming with the way the deceased was wasting his precious life when he was alive and opined that this will serve as a lesson to those he left behind with same character for them to change to a better way of livelihood.
