The African Democratic Congress, ADC, faction led by Hon. Nafiu Bala has inaugurated its zonal and state congress and appeal committees in Abuja.

The inauguration took place on Sunday, with the party leadership distancing itself from comments by Hon. Leke Joseph Abijide endorsing President Bola Tinubu for a 2027 re-election bid.

Speaking at the event, the National Chairman of the faction, Hon. Nafiu Bala, said the establishment of the committees underscored the party’s commitment to internal democracy and strong structures.

Bala said the committees would oversee the planning and conduct of congresses at zonal, state, local government and ward levels.

“They are also to enforce constitutional compliance, implement congress guidelines and uphold electoral regulations, including voting procedures, ballot handling and result declaration, in line with the Electoral Act,” he said.

He urged party members to work together to strengthen the ADC and remain guided by justice, equity and fairness.

“We must ensure that our party remains a beacon of hope for all Nigerians, a platform where the aspirations of our people are nurtured and their voices amplified,” Bala said.

The ADC chairman also thanked the National Working Committee for what he described as its vision in setting up the committees.

Addressing recent political comments, Bala said the party leadership rejected Abijide’s statement backing Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

“I want to categorically distance the leadership of ADC from the statement made by Hon. Leke Joseph Abijide in support of President Bola Tinubu for 2027 re-election,” he said.

According to him, the endorsement did not represent the position of the ADC.

“This statement does not reflect the position of the African Democratic Congress as a determined opposition party in Nigeria,” Bala added.

He said the party rejected any association with the endorsement and reaffirmed its stance as an opposition force in the country’s political space.

Bala called on party leaders and members to remain united and committed to building what he described as a democratic and accountable political platform.
