…says preparations for 2027 ongoing

The former National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Ralph Nwosu, has stated that the party will proceed with its scheduled congresses and national convention despite ongoing leadership disputes and concerns raised by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, monitored in Abuja, Nwosu said the party had put in place arrangements for its internal activities leading up to the 2027 general elections and would not be halted by regulatory disagreements.
He explained that the ADC had complied with INEC requirements by submitting its programme of activities, which he claimed had been acknowledged by the electoral body.
“We are doing what we need to do both in court and with INEC, but we will not allow INEC to stop our programmes,” he said, adding that the party leadership had resolved to continue its preparations after reviewing the situation.
Nwosu maintained that the party’s congresses were already underway, stressing that the national convention scheduled for April 14 would proceed as planned.
According to him, the convention would also serve as an opportunity to review ongoing party processes.
He further emphasized that the ADC was focused on building what he described as principled leadership ahead of the next election cycle, warning against what he termed opportunistic entrants into the party.
“We want leaders with a clear mission and the courage to confront a flawed system,” he said.
The former chairman also noted that the party would continue to notify INEC of its activities, including processes for selecting candidates ahead of the 2027 elections, but insisted that it would proceed with its plans regardless of objections.
“If there are disagreements, we will also make our position known to the Nigerian public through the media,” he added.
