ADC, NDC join Nasarawa North Senatorial bye-election as INEC expands candidates’ list

The race for the Nasarawa North Senatorial District seat has become more competitive following the inclusion of two additional candidates by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), expanding the field from four to six contestants ahead of the June 20 bye-election.
The updated list released by INEC now features candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), broadening the range of political parties participating in the poll.
The development comes after an earlier final list published by the electoral commission contained only candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
With the latest revision, Alaku Mohammed Steve Ahmadu of the ADC and Duba Shaya Dodo of the NDC have officially entered the contest, creating a six-way battle for the senatorial seat.
The complete list of candidates cleared for the election includes Hallu Danladi Envu-Uza (APC), Emmanuel David Ombugadu (PDP), Maku Labaran (LP), John Paul Araneshi (NNPP), Alaku Mohammed Steve Ahmadu (ADC), and Duba Shaya Dodo (NDC).
Political observers say the inclusion of additional parties could alter campaign dynamics in the district by offering voters more alternatives and potentially influencing voting patterns across the five local government areas that make up Nasarawa North.
The bye-election, scheduled for June 20, will determine who represents the senatorial district in the National Assembly, with parties intensifying campaigns as the polling date approaches.
INEC’s updated list effectively sets the stage for a broader and more competitive contest, as candidates seek to mobilise support across the district in the final days before the election.
