A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) relied on sustained propaganda to defeat former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 general election.
In a post shared on his X account, Okonkwo described the APC as “a party of propaganda,” claiming that its campaign against Jonathan was driven by persistent criticism and negative messaging.
According to the former Labour Party presidential campaign spokesman, the then-opposition party, led in its media efforts by former Minister of Information Lai Mohammed, portrayed Jonathan as “clueless, corrupt, insensitive and incompetent,” particularly over insecurity in the North-East and the removal of fuel subsidy.
Okonkwo argued that the sustained attacks contributed significantly to Jonathan’s defeat at the polls.
He further praised the former president’s conduct during the election, noting that Jonathan did not use state power to suppress the opposition or target political opponents.
The ADC chieftain also recalled Jonathan’s widely praised concession after the election, saying the former president accepted defeat peacefully and congratulated Muhammadu Buhari before the official declaration of the results.
