Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the National Assembly, Philip Aduda, has advised young people in the Territory to engage in various sporting activities as a means to contributing their quota to the development of their immediate environment.
Speaking yesterday at the opening of the ongoing football competition he organised, at the Area 3 playing ground, the senator said the competition was aimed at meaningfully engaging the attention of the young people in the FCT
“These young ones can be meaningfully engaged by involving them in various sporting activities instead of using them for political thuggery during political activities.
“But with this competition, their attention will be shifted from any sort of evil acts and they will be thinking of how to contribute their quota to the development of their immediate environment”, Aduda said.
According to him, the winning team at the grand finale will have the opportunity to travel outside the country to play with foreign teams, apart from the monetary gains attached to the competition.
Our reporter said a total of 62 teams from all the 62 political wards in the FCT will participate in the preliminary to enable each of the six area councils produce three teams each to form the 18 teams that will participate in the tournament proper.
The opening ceremony, which was monitored by a FIFA accredited referee and Chairman of the FCT Referees Association, Zakowi Abraham, also featured distribution of sporting materials to all the area councils.
