The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project is set to construct Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities for the 110 Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs) in the country.
AGILE is a World Bank-supported programme under the Federal Ministry of Education.
A press statement issued by AGILE Communication Officer, Linda Irabor, said the programme was to improve the quality of learning environment in Unity Colleges across the country.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. David Adejo, stated this at a technical workshop with Principals of the Federal Unity Colleges from the Southern and Northern zones of the country which are Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and Kano, Kano State, respectively, to enlighten the principals on the modalities for the intervention.
The Permanent Secretary, represented by the Director, Senior Secondary Education, Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, said the project’s intervention was compelled by the Federal Government’s desire to make secondary education more appealing to learners and teachers.
The National Coordinator, AGILE Project, Amina Haruna, represented by the Deputy National Project Coordinator (DNPC), Abuka Ajanigo, urged the Principals to support the budget to attract more adolescent girls to school and curb the high number of out-of-school children.
The Principals expressed their gratitude for the intervention as well as their readiness to abide by the stipulated standards for the WASH facilities.
