Foreign Minister of Nigeria, Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar has met with his Brazilian counterpart, Mr. Mauro Vieria to discuss bilateral relations and strengthen ties in Abuja Wednesday.
During Vieria’s visit, the two Ministers spend time mapping out next steps in the Brazil-Nigeria strategic partnership, which was already in a good place and progressing more.
Speaking during the visit, Amb. Tuggar stated that agriculture, green impetrative within that fold, trade and investment dominated their discussion.
He informed that Strategic Dialogue Mechanism that exist between Nigeria and Brazil since 2013 was also central in their meeting.
According to Amb. Tuggar, “Central to the discussion was the strategic dialogue mechanism that exist between Nigeria and Brazil since 2013.
“It is vital to know that Brazil has this Strategic Dialogue Mechanism with only three countries and Nigeria is one of them. It shows the importance of the relationships between Nigeria and Brazil.
“The mechanism is chaired by the Vice Presidents of Nigeria and Brazil. Nigeria is preparing to host and we are looking forward to host Brazilian Vice President and their delegation in near future.
“We have several areas of collaboration, Agriculture, trade and investment, green impetrative. We have defense coordination within that fold. We are partnering in the area of Solid minerals with the aim of creating more jobs by learning and leveraging on Brazil’s capacity from metal processing and refining” he stated.
Also speaking, Foreign Minister of Brazil, Mr. Mauro Vieria said that President Bola Tinubu’s participation in the G20 summit in Brazil last November, highlighted Nigeria’s contributions to the forum.
He therefore, extended invitation of Brazilian President, Lula for President Tinubu to visit Brazil in the near future.
His words, “This visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations, building on previous engagements since President Lula took office in January 2023.
“It’s a pleasure to visit Nigeria, and our congratulations for your birthday today, it’s a wonderful way to celebrate the friendship between Brazil and Nigeria on this specific day.
“I thank you very much for the hospitality and the very attentive ways we have been received here. I remember our first meeting in 2023 by the end of the year in Dubai, on the margins of the cop 28 and also the occasion when President Lula and President Tinubu met in 2024 in Addis at the African Union summit.
“We are very pleased that President Tinubu went to Brazil for the g20 summit in November. We value a lot the contribution of Nigeria to the g20 and we hope that President Tinubu will be able to come back to Brazil in the near future” he said.
