Airport: FCDA assures stakeholders of speedy reconstruction of Bill Clinton Drive

The Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) has assured motorists and other stakeholders of strong commitment to ensure speedy reconstruction of the ever busy Bill Clinton road, in Abuja, the nation’s capital city.
According to the FCDA’s Executive Secretary, Jibrin Gambo Umar, asserted this yesterday, during a stakeholders’interactive session on the reconstruction of the proposed Bill Clinton Drive Project, held inside FCDA conference hall, in Area 11.
Umar, who said that plans have been concluded to ensure swift and smooth take off of the project expected to be completed by December, disclosed that there would be partial closure of the road during the actual construction period.
He noted that the contract for the project in the sum of N1.7 billion was awarded to CCECC, a Chinese construction firm, in March, 2018, by Federal Executive Council (FEC).
According to him, the stakeholders meeting was necessitated by the virtue of the road being an important gateway into the city and by implication into the country.
He opined the expansion works, expected to commence in two to three weeks time, aimed at enhancing the vehicular traffic flow around the area.
The FCDA boss however advised commuters to use Abuja light rail to convey passengers to and from the airport to reduce traffic volume on the axis.
Also speaking, Director engineering, FCDA, Engr. Hadi Hassan, explained that the work will be done in phases; rehabilitation of the shoulders, to allow them operate before closing the out bound to allow ease traffic flow; and closure of the out bound, with the carriage way will be open while the work is ongoing.
He added that, one regular U-turn will be introduced to ease movement, as well as signages would be erected at locations along the road, speed breakers,
warning lights, live and dummy flagmen, all to ensure minimum inconvenience during the period.
Some of the stakeholders who attended the meeting include; Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Ministry of Aviation, National Security Adviser (NSA), Federal Road Safety Service Corps (FRSC), Property owners, organizations along the area, UN Mission, FCT Water amongst others.
