Akume commissions FHA Mall in Abuja, says housing key to Renewed Hope Agenda

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, on Tuesday commissioned the newly completed Federal Housing Authority (FHA) Mall in Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja, describing the project as a testament to the Federal Government’s renewed drive to reposition public institutions for performance and service delivery.

Speaking at the ceremony, Akume commended the management of the Federal Housing Authority for what he described as a remarkable turnaround within two years, noting that the Authority had evolved into a results-oriented agency committed to its core mandate of providing livable housing for Nigerians.

He said the project reflected the resilience and determination required to overcome national challenges, adding that the Federal Government was creating the enabling environment necessary for economic growth and development.

Akume highlighted the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda, stating that recent policy decisions though initially difficult were beginning to yield positive results. According to him, improvements are being recorded in the economy, food prices, and security.

Reaffirming housing as a priority sector, the SGF noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu established the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to strengthen institutional focus on addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit. He pledged continued government support for FHA’s expansion efforts nationwide and urged Nigerians to sustain their backing for the administration.

In his remarks, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FHA, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo, described the commissioning as a milestone achievement, noting that the mall ranks among the tallest in Abuja.

He disclosed that the four-suspended-floor complex comprises 59 shopping spaces and a penthouse, equipped with modern amenities to support commercial activities within Gwarinpa Estate.

According to Ojo, the project was inherited in an incomplete state but was revived in line with the President’s directive against abandoned projects. He said the development aligns with FHA’s expanded mandate under the Renewed Hope agenda, not only to deliver affordable housing but also to provide complementary infrastructure that enhances residents’ quality of life.

The FHA boss revealed that the Authority had secured land allocations in 28 states following engagements with state governors, many of whom provided land at no cost. He added that Certificates of Occupancy had been obtained in several locations.

Ojo said construction of Renewed Hope Estates had commenced in 17 states under the first phase of development, following the conclusion of procurement processes.
“Ground-breaking ceremonies have already been held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and Kaduna State.

“Other completed projects include; 100 housing units in Ajoda, Ibadan; Express View Estate in Lugbe, Abuja; a 1.3-kilometre road in Guzape, Abuja; and the corporate head office of FHA Mortgage Bank in Gwarinpa”.

He added that 350 housing units in Bwari, Abuja, are expected to be delivered within the first quarter of 2026.
