Al-makura urges FG to rehabilitate federal roads

Governor Tanko Almakura of Nasarawa State has called on the federal government to as a matter of urgency rehabilitate federal roads which cut across the state in order to palliate the sufferings being faced by motorists and other road users.
The governor made the plea when he received senate committee on works at the government house Lafia Saturday.
Almakura who mentioned the roads to include Keffi-Toto, Lafia-Shendam, Keffi-Kaduna and Lafia – Akwanga – Keffi Federal highways; adding that if rehabilitated, it would go along way curtail the sufferings encountered by motorists and other road users.
According to him, “The roads are in a deplorable condition. There are alot of potholes. The potholes are creating field way for hoodlums to attack motorists”.
The governor also highlighted some of his achievements to the senate committee when he came on board to include the construction of roads and culverts across the state.
His words; “When I came on board. There was no single 1 kilometer asphalt road constructed by the state government. I deemed it fit to embarked on the construction of 200 kilometers asphalt road in the state capital. Every local government council, 3 kilometer road has been constructed. We embarked on the construction of culverts across local government councils and development areas. We also intervened on federal projects in the state especially the culverts at Doma road”.
Almakura appealed to the federal government to extend the ongoing construction of Awe Tunga road to Taraba state; maintaining that the extension of the road to Taraba would boost economic activities of the people.
“The road will turn the lives of the people not even in Nasarawa State alone but Taraba, Gombe and Adamawa respectively” he added.
Also in his remark, the chairman, senate house committee on works Sanator Kabiru Mohammed Gaya said that they were in Nasarawa State to assess the ongoing federal government projects.
According to him, “we visited Loko bridge. It is an international standard and shall be commissioned next year. Mr. President is making frantic effort to see its completion”
Senator Gaya however, expressed dissatisfaction on the road project exhibited by the contractor; adding that fifty billion Naira has been put on the road but lamented on poor level of work
