In his words: “Prior to the attack, we learnt that the Nigerian military was going to launch an attack on us during our religious procession in Zaria. Unknown to us, the military had changed to Potiskum. Despite being aware of the attack, we went ahead and did it, because it is an event we do every year.”

When the BBC asked the leader about the evidence to buttress their claim, that the military was responsible for the attack, Al-Zakzaky said,” we have evidential facts which indicated to us that it was the military. We have pictures of the military that launched the assault and this is not the first time. If you could recall, three months ago, the military did the same in Zaria.
