Allege Cybercrime: Sowore secures N10m bail with one surety in like sum

Justice Musa Liman of the Federation High Court sitting in Abuja, Thursday, granted the convener of #Revolutionnow movement, Omoyele Sowore bail to the tune of N10million and one surety in like sum.

The trial judge, while ruling on the bail application, ordered Sowore to deposit his international passport with the registrar of the court.

Also, the court held that the defendant must produce a responsible individual with landed property valued in like sum as a surety.

The surety is expected to deposit the original documents of the landed property and a passport photograph to the registrar of the court.

However, the court gave Sowore 24 hours to perfect the bail conditions or be remanded by the police till the bail condition is perfected.

Sowore pleaded not guilty to a 16-count charge bothering on cyber crime preferred against him by the Nigerian police force.

The Police is alleging that the activist used his verified X handle account(Former Twitter) ‘Omoyele Sowore,’ to post a tweet against the Inspector General of Police, calling him “illegal IGP Kayode Egbetokun.”

The prosecution alleged that this statement is false and intended to incite a breakdown of law and order.

Following not guilty please, Sowore, through his counsel,  Marshall Abubakar, prayed the court to grant him bail in the most liberal terms.

The defendant had on January  27, honored the invitation by the police for questioning.

He was however granted administrative bail, which he rejected its conditions and remained in custody.

He is being accused of making derogatory statements against the inspector general of police and the entire police force on social media.
