Alleged stealing: Coy manager in Delta in Court over brutal assault on suspect

A 56 year -old general manger of a private company in Ibusa / Ogwashi Uku road, Delta State,Mr Oluchukwu Obinna has been dragged to court for allegedly assualting with degrees of injuries on one Obiechie Promise one of the company’s drivers after he was accused of stealing the company’s property.
Oluchukwu, General Manager of Xing Sheng Industry Limited, an Aluminum Company, was last Wednesday arrrested by the police at Ogwashi Uku Division over the assualt meted out on Obiechie Promise accused of stealing the company’s property worth millions of naira.
At the resumed hearing in the case at Ibusa magisterial court, the accused person, Oluchukwu Obinna, standing trial on two count charge of: attempted murder, and conspiracy occasioning assult told the court that the complainant was caught with the company’s property, leading to his beating in his attempt to escape, adding that upon interrogation, the suspect identified as Obiechie Promise confessed to the crime, and was handed over to the police.
But to his surprise, the Police instead came after him few days after the incident.
During cross examination by the defence counsel, Barr Ben Okoh, the complainant, Obiechie Promise told the court how he was accused of stealing the company’s property by the manager who claimed to have captured him through Close Circuit Television (CCTV) a situation he was brutally assulted.
He said that when he denied of not being responsible for the stolen items, and demanded to have a look at the footage, the general manager slapped him and called the security guards who joined in beating him as he was forced to confess to the crime and later handed over to the police, adding”I was beaten with baton, cutlass and cable, tortured from 8am till about 12 noon before I was taken to the police station where I was detained before release.
