Members of the Alumni association of Federal Government College (FGC), Azare, in Bauchi state, have decried the current condition of Unity Schools across the country and urged the federal government to take necessary action to stem the declining standards.

The 1994 graduates of FGC Azare, who made the call during their first reunion, held in Abuja, particularly noted with concern the rising downward slide in the values of the Unity Schools in Nigeria.

Chairperson of the organising committee of the first reunion, Ada Chukwuma, who addressed newsmen at the end of the forum, stated that the group resolved to demand the immediate reversal of the downward trend of the unity colleges by the federal ministry of education.

She specifically noted with regrets, the dilapidating state of FGC Azare, especially the school’s perimeter fence and gates, which she said the alumni were committed to rehabilitating.

She said that the forum, among others, reviewed and considered various other options members could explore collectively to help their alma mater.

Ada Chukwuma recalled with nostalgia the bond of friendship, love and

camaraderie between her and her schoolmates while they were students in FGC Azare, notwithstanding the religious, ethnic and cultural differences that were obvious.

She however noted with concern the rising insecurity across the country, which she said has dealt a bid blow to the peace and harmony that had thrived in Nigeria in the past.
