AMAC 2022: How Alhassan Gwagwa emerged Chairmanship flag bearer of APC

Ahead of the forthcoming February FCT Area Councils’ 2022 elections, Hon. Suleiman Alhassan Gwagwa has emerged the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmanship candidate in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

Gwagwa scured one hundred and ten votes (110) to defeat other eight aspirants in the APC primary election held at the Women Development Centre, Abuja, under the watchful eyes of security agencies, state officials of the party and representatives of INEC.

Chairman of the APC electoral committee, Alhaji Buhari Yusuf said Suleiman Gwagwa polled one hundred and ten votes (110) to beat his closed rival, Mr Murtala Usman Karshi who polled one hundred and four (104) votes, followed by Isyaku Tanko Yamawo who came third with seventy six (76) votes.

Yusuf, who described the election as free, fair and credible, said “based on the party’s Constitution, Alhaji Suleiman Alhassan Gwagwa having polled the highest number of votes is hereby declared  the winner and stands as the party’ candidate for the AMAC Chairmanship seat in the forthcoming elections.”

Speaking with newsmen after the exercise, Gwagwa who commended all delegates for the support, expressed optimism that APC would emerged winner in next year’s Chairmanship election in AMAC.

The APC AMAC Chairmanship flag bearer noted that repositioning the council required the support of all party members and aspirants.

He therefore called on all the aspirants who contested in the primary to join hands with him to ensure victory of the party comes next year February when the election would be conducted.

He also enjoined party’s loyalists and supporters to remain steadfast and campaign vigorously for the party’s victory, while urging them to shun all forms of violence before, during or after the election.

Our correspondent reports that the APC chairmanship candidate, will now contest with his close rival of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Christopher Zaka and candidates from the other political parties who are also in the race.
