In a significant political development for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hon. Bitrus Lawrence Garki has officially announced his withdrawal from the contest for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
In a press statement he personally signed and released on Thursday, Garki cited party unity and the “greater good” of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the primary motivations for his exit from the race.
He emphasized that the decision followed extensive consultations and a period of honest reflection on the current political landscape.
A central highlight of Garki’s withdrawal is his explicit alignment with the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Barr. Nyesom Wike.
Describing Wike as a leader with a “bold vision” and “decisive governance,” Garki pledged his full loyalty to the Minister’s political direction.
“True leadership is not always about the position you hold, but the sacrifices you make for the greater good.
“At this critical moment, party cohesion and collective purpose must take precedence,” Garki stated.
In a move that signals a shift in the constituency’s dynamics, Garki and his “teeming supporters” declared their total and unequivocal support for Senator Philip Aduda and other candidates endorsed by the FCT Minister.
Despite stepping down from the legislative race, Garki reaffirmed his commitment to the national leadership of the APC.
He pledged to work vigorously for the success and re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Garki noted he would continue his advocacy through several progressive platforms, including:
Addressing his supporters, youth groups, and community stakeholders, Garki expressed deep gratitude for their belief in his vision.
He clarified that his withdrawal does not mark the end of his political journey but rather a “repositioning” for service and loyalty.
The withdrawal is expected to narrow the field for the AMAC/Bwari seat, potentially consolidating votes behind the Minister’s preferred candidates and streamlining the APC’s strategy within the FCT ahead of the polls.
