AMAC: Candido cautions chiefs against giving frivolous traditional titles

The Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Abdullahi Adamu Candido has strongly advised traditional rulers in the Council against giving frivolous Chieftaincy titles to individuals within their respective domains.
Candido said that traditional titles shouldn’t be just an anyhow gift, rather it should be something that has to do with the developmental contributions from people (recipients) in the Chiefdoms.
He spoke on the sideline of turbaning ceremony by Jiwa Emirate Council of AMAC, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to mark 17th Anniversary of the enthronement of Alhaji Idris Musa, as Emir of Jiwa (2001-2018), on Saturday.
According to him, giving traditional titles, it’s celebration of contribution to the development of the Chiefdoms, and by the virtue of the rights and privileges of chiefs, from time to time they recognize those who contributed to the development of their respective domains.
This, he explained chiefs do by giving individuals befitting titles in the spirit of unity, so that they can continue making inputs on the development of the area, saying it makes him happy.
His words: “I will seriously point out that traditional titles shouldn’t be just an anyhow gift, rather it should be something that has to do with the developmental contributions from people in the society.
“I have not been able to lay my hands on who exactly are these ones that have been enthroned today.
“But I think that from time to time we should begin to look at the services rendered before titles are given.”
He added that traditional title holders should be seen contributing to the development of the respective Chiefdoms and the council as a whole.
Furthermore, the AMAC boss, while congratulating his Vice, Lawrence Onuchukwu, who was among those given Chieftaincy titles by Jiwa Emirate Council, said the Chiefdom will expect more from them not just in his official capacity, but even after leaving office.
On his part, Onuchukwu who was turbaned as the ‘Jarumin Gabas of Jiwa, pledged to redouble his loyalty and commitment towards the rapid and comprehensive development of the Chiefdom.
He thanked the Chiefdom for the decision to recognise his astute loyalty and quality service to humanity during the epoch making occasion of the 17th anniversary of the current Emir of Jiwa.
Meanwhile, in a related development, AMAC Chairman has implored members and officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to shun the use of youth as political thugs during campaigns.
Speaking while presenting branded vehicles for electioneering purpose, he strongly condemned the use of thugs in politics, adding that those seeking for leadership positions should do away with the thuggery that causes violence, and called on youth to refuse any calls from politicians to be used as thugs.
