The former AMAC Supervisory Councillor for Finance, Budget, and Investment, Hon. Gabriel Bravo Oluohu, states that the defection of Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has heralded a new political era.

Bravo,in a press statement on Friday hailed Maikalangu’s defection as a defining moment for the APC, declaring that the move has effectively dismantled any opposition within the council.

“What Maikalangu has done is a winning formula and a joker for APC. With his coming, there is no opposition in AMAC any longer,” Oluohu stated in a press release issued on Friday.

The event, held on Thursday, reportedly drew an unprecedented crowd, likened by Oluohu to the magnitude of a presidential or governorship campaign rally.

Thousands of supporters, many clad in branded T-shirts and caps bearing Maikalangu’s image, gathered in a show of solidarity.

The sheer turnout, Oluohu noted, included even staunch loyalists of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), some of whom had previously sworn allegiance to the opposition.

Their presence, he claimed, underscored Maikalangu’s cross-party appeal and political influence.

Describing Maikalangu’s defection as a “significant blow to the opposition,” Oluohu advised current aspirants to reconsider their ambitions.

“For the few aspirants pretending they are still contesting, I advise them to take a lesson from this. Maikalangu is a vehicle that can take us to the promised land,” he said, using a local proverb to highlight the futility of challenging the incumbent.

He urged Maikalangu, now beginning a new chapter under the APC, to embrace inclusivity.

“Carry everyone along – both those from your former party and your new allies. Balance both sides for the progress and development of all residents of AMAC,” he added.

Oluohu also called on the APC leadership to grant Maikalangu an automatic ticket for a second term, commending party leaders including National Chairman Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Hon. Zephaniah Bitrus Jisalo, and other stakeholders for their support and presence at the defection ceremony.
