As part measures to cushion the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) yesterday disbursed 1,200 bags (25kg) of rice and 500 bags (50kg)of beans to residents of the 12 wards in the council.
The beneficiaries were drawn from various communities and major political parties within City Centre, Garki, Gui, Gwagwa, Gwarinpa, Jiwa, Karshi, Kabusa, Karu, Nyanya, Orozo and Wuse Wards respectively.
Flagging off the distribution at Apo Resttlement, AMAC Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu Candido, noted that the palliatives are meant to complement the efforts of the FCT administration in supporting the vulnerable in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He disclosed that different committees had been set up at the various wards to ensure that the palliative gets to the vulnerable and poor in various rural communities in the council.
“We have been able to provide 1,200 bags of 25kg of rice with 500 bags 50kg of beans, which are meant for our rural communities.
“Our intention is to complement the effort of our mother ministry and I am urging the committees to ensure that the process of distribution is transparent.
“We are also going to ensure that we monitor the process, so that those that matter, get the palliative,” he said.
Responding on behalf of the stakeholders, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in AMAC, Abbas Baba, who appreciated the chairman for the initiative, also urged the committee members to ensure that those who had not benefitted from any palliative, since the lockdown began, benefit from the palliatives.
Similarly, a member of Garki community Palliative committee, Sani Jibrin, assured that the committee would be transparent in the distribution of the palliative.
