Students from the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) studying in Tertiary institutions are set to receive over 26 million Naira as scholarship fund.
It was gathered that the scholarship would be disbursed in May, this year to both indigenes and non indigenes of the area council.
Making this disclosure, the AMAC Chairman, Abdullahi Candido, said the Council had last year, secured admission for no fewer than 50 students to study science related courses at the University of Abuja.
Candido, who spoke at a recent 2021 Media Retreat organised for newsmen and his media team, said: “In terms of education, we have taken steps to ensure that we have put in place measures of supporting education
“We have approved N26 million as disbursement for our students in tertiary institutions, it is not all about building additional schools here and there. But the ones that we have built, we want to sustain them”.
He explained that the area council’s school for the gifted is an ICT driven and innovative school which would be completed soon.
He added that the proposed AMAC Community Radio is at 70 per cent completion, stressing that the station would go on air on or before May 20.
Candido, who commended media practitioners for their support since inception of his tenure, also charged them to not relent on projecting the council’s achievements.
In his presentation, one of the resource persons at the occasion,
Associate Prof. Sheriff Ibrahim, commended the chairman for the numerous achievements recorded so far.
Ibrahim, who did justice to the topic, ‘Prospects and Way Forward of Candido’s Administration’, enjoined the chairman to consolidate more efforts on education, employment and job opportunities for youths.
He equally noted the need to the enhance porous security architecture and effective revenue generation and services, among others.
