In what seems as reinvigorated attempt to boost its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) profile, the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) said it has commenced crack down on suspected revenue thieves in the council.

This move, was disclosed in a statement issued by the  Senior Special Assistant on Community Development to the council chairman, Yunusa Yusuf.

Yusuf explained that the AMAC’s combined security joint task force , had raided  a garden, near Wuse market at the weekend and chased out ‘self appointed tax collectors’ with 10 suspects  arrested.

The statement added that the arrest followed efforts of the Task force in combing black spots, where unauthorized tax  collectors use the name of AMAC and fake receipts to swindle members of the public within the Council, especially in mobile advert revenue.

Also, it revealed that the suspects mostly male, had turned the garden directly opposite the popular Wuse market main entrance gate into their hideout for criminal acts.

According to him, the team would stop at nothing in riding the entire Council of criminal elements that threaten revenue and the peace of the Abuja Municipal Area Council and its residents.

Furthermore, he disclosed that items recovered from them include fake AMAC jackets with inscriptions of AMAC Taskforce, fake AMAC receipts, AMAC ID cards, illicit drugs and charms.

He however, explained that the 10 suspects would be profiled and handed over to appropriate authorities for necessary actions.
