The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue State has a new acting chairman, Benjamin Omakolo from Apa local government area.
This comes on heels of a recent High Court injunction restraining the suspended Chairman Austin Agada from parading himself as chairman of the party.
It would be noted that APC in the State has been embroiled in crisis over supremacy between the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF Sen. Akume and the State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia. The former controls the party.
Things got awry last week when ward Exco of Ehaje ward(Agada’s ward) led by Godwin Abah slammed a suspension on him alleging involvement in anti-party activity following a petition written by Daniel Onjeh, a Senatorial candidate in Benue South district election in 2023.
Agada was given a clean bill of health by the National Working Committee, NWC that insisted he remained chairman of the party in he State. However, a violent confrontation ensued at the party Secretariat last week when it was purportedly inavded by security operatives while Agada was meeting with Ehaje ward Exco led by Peter Onoja who were on a solidarity visit to him.
At a State Executive Committee meeting, SEC held at the Government on Wednesday, presided over by the Governor who is leader of the party in the State, he said the vacuum of the chairmanship position must be filled.
Hear him,”this is the best party any one would want to be in. A lot of sacrifice was done for us to have victory. Everyone worked tirelessly for the victory.
“We must keep the party under one execution as it holds prospective of winning in the future. The unfortunate turn of events by the suspension of Agada by his ward Exco is a worrisome experience that was done. We are in receipt of a High court injunction restraining him from carrying out his function.”
