Instability in government’s policies responsible for foreign tourism – Expert

Date:

From: Femi Oyelola, Kaduna

A tourism expert, Dr Tobi Bernard Thomas has blamed foreign tourism on education and healthcare by Nigerians on the instability of the government’s policies to fix the sectors of the economy.
Dr Thomas said that the only way the government can either stop or reduce foreign tourism on education and healthcare by Nigerians is for the government to ensure that the tourism sector is vibrant.
The advice by the expert followed the revelation of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Yemi Cardoso on how Nigerians have expended $40 billion on education and healthcare in the last ten years.
Recall that the apex bank Governor equally noted that foreign tourism on education and healthcare by Nigerians is one of the major factors contributing to the devaluation of the naira.
While speaking at a press conference in Kaduna on Thursday, Dr Thomas explained that the Nigerian foreign exchange market is currently facing increased demand pressures, causing a continuous decline in the value of the naira.
The expert opined that corruption, limited institutional capacity and an unstable economy are major factors responsible for the poor development of the educational sector and health services in Nigeria.
“For these reasons, we are calling on the governments at all levels to put all that it takes in place on education, healthcare, roads and other sectors of the economy to minimise the education and healthcare tourism by Nigerians,” Dr Thomas said.
