ANCOPSS harps on support for quality education in FCT

The All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) in the FCT have identified continuous support on improving the teaching and learning system in the Territory, as key to attaining critical developmental objectives.
Making this point, FCT-ANCOPSS President, Alhaji Abdulkarim Abdulrahman, while speaking during its 153rd Congress, said support for quality teaching is key to producing impactful learning outcomes for students, and achieving set objectives.
Abdulrahaman expressed appreciation to the FCT Administration led by the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammed Musa Bello, and Minister of State for FCT, Dr Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, in ensuring the safe reopening of schools with preventive and palliatives measures put in place for smooth academic activities, after the global pandemic of Covid-19 lockdown.
He described the development as commendable and reassuring that, Education in FCT is a top priority, hence it’s setting the pace.
He therefore promised that the ANCOPSS will not relent in its various efforts to continue to adhere strictly to laid down rules and regulations to safeguard lives while inculcating and sustaining quality teaching and learning culture in FCT Schools.
The ANCOPSS President also noted that the teaching profession as a noble endeavour should foster quality teaching through inter dependent levels for collaborative learning, with common goals, which is beneficiary to the learning environment.
He reminded Principals of their strategic roles to position schools through good administrative process of transparency and accountability, advising them to ensure only approved charges are collected while guiding against any practise that is capable of tarnishing their image.
According to him, principals need to influence contemporary thinking about governance and Administration in order to help government policies, structures and financial investment decisions protected.
While stressing for appropriate school discipline for both staff and students, the President added that Principals need to be vigilant and checkmate students tendency for vices such as drug abuse,cultism, rape, dressing patterns, and unruly conducts.
He equally urged them to continue to exhibit character worthy of emulation as role models, accountable for students performance and as future leaders.
Furthermore, he outlined the achievements of the current executive inaugurated three years ago, to include: introduction of ANCOPSS Saving Scheme, setting up of committees to handle various issues, soliciting for support through visits to Board and Departments under the Education Secretariat.
He added that others are: purchase of ANCOPSS official vehicle and refurbishing of the vehicle donated by NUT to FCT ANCOPSS, opening of temporary ANCOPSS Secretariat, and regular presentations of papers as well as Production of ANCOPSS Directory.
He explained that the achievements are testimonies of collective efforts by all and the goodwill has executives has enjoyed and continue to enjoy under the present Administration.
The highlight of the annual Congress was the award of certificate of merit to outstanding members and others, who have distinguished themselves in the course of their duties.
