APC Convention: Ex Gov joins chairmanship race

Date:

By Umar Muhammad Puma

As the convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) draws nearer, former Governor of Cross River State, Chief Clement Ebri, has obtained the nomination and expression of interest forms for the party’s National Chairmanship position.
Ebri who hinted yesterday that he will make official declaration for the APC National Chairmanship position on Wednesday this week, said that the form was paid for him by his supporters.
According to him, he is far away in Calabar, Cross River State, when his supporters obtained the forms for him for N500, 000.
The former Governor had said that his interest was to build a united party that would be all inclusive.
He is the second person who has indicated interest to contest the APC National Chairmanship seat.
He would be running against the former Governor of Edo State, should no other person indicate interest to contest.
Oyegun on Friday told the media that he would not be seeking re-election. According to him, the unity of the party was greater than his interest to seek for re-election.
Ebri, speaking in a telephone chat, said he had sent letter expressing his interest to lead the party to the APC Governors and President.
“l am making official declaration of my interest to contest for the APC National Chairman on June 6 in Calabar, Cross River State. l have also sent my letter to the Governors and the President to ask for their votes in the forthcoming Convention.
“l believe that the party needs somebody that would unite members and not one that would cause more division for the party,” he said.
