Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has officially emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) Candidate for the Gombe North Senatorial District after securing a landslide victory in the party’s 2026 Senatorial Primary Election held across Gombe State.
The declaration was made during an official press briefing by the Chairman of the APC Gombe State Primary Election Committee, Mallam Labiru Musa Kafur, who announced that Governor Inuwa Yahaya polled a total of 131,009 certified affirmation votes to clinch the party’s ticket.
The committee stated that the primary election, conducted on Monday, May 18, 2026, was peaceful, transparent and orderly across all eleven Local Government Areas of the state.
According to the committee chairman, the election was conducted strictly in compliance with the directives of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party through the Direct Primary system, which enabled party members at the grassroots level to participate directly in the process.
He further disclosed that official declarations of results were carried out at the various zonal collation centres immediately after the conclusion of collation exercises in line with party regulations and electoral guidelines.
At the Gombe North Collation Centre located at the Kwami Local Government Secretariat, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya was formally declared Candidate-Elect after recording the highest number of lawful votes cast.
In the Gombe Central Senatorial District, retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ahmed, emerged as the APC Candidate-Elect with 89,415 certified valid votes following the declaration at the Kumo Local Government Secretariat.
For the Gombe South Senatorial District, Mr. Jerry Joseph Damara secured victory with 56,687 certified valid votes to become the party’s standard bearer for the district.

affirmed that all the declared winners fulfilled the necessary constitutional and party requirements and were validly returned as APC candidates for the forthcoming senatorial elections.
The Committee Chairman Commended stakeholders for the successful conduct of the exercise, describing the excellence as a credible, transparent and world-class democratic process.
He reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to the legitimacy of the field declarations and maintained that the results accurately reflected the will of APC members across Gombe State.
