President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday met six governors on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa.
The President met the governors at his residence shortly after returning from Daura, Katsina State, where he voted during the governorship and state assembly elections held nationwide last weekend.
Governors who attended the meeting include Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State, Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State, Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State, Kassim Shetima of Borno State and Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State.
Although the governors declined comments on the agenda of the meeting, there were suspicions that it may not be unconnected with the outcome of the governorship and state assembly elections.
It would be recalled that the ruling party is finding it difficult to retain some of its strongholds, as many of its states polls have been declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
For instance, elections in Kano, Plateau, Benue, Bauchi and Sokoto were declared inconclusive by the electoral umpire.
The governorship election in Rivers State was equally suspended by the electoral umpire.
