The controversy surrounding the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding its governorship nomination has escalated, with the party formally petitioning the Inspector General of Police to request the arrest of Mr. Abayomi Hunye for alleged impersonation.

The petition, signed by the APC Director of Administration, Ayoola Peter Olajolo Esq., warns that Mr. Hunye’s public actions risk causing a breach of public peace and related offenses.

This legal step follows a disclaimer issued by the APC National Working Committee (NWC), via National Secretary Sen. Ajibola Basiru, which reaffirmed Sen. Solomon Olamilekan as the party’s recognized governorship candidate alongside Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as the deputy governorship candidate.

In the submission to the police chief, the APC requested a formal investigation and arrest of Mr. Hunye for publicly parading himself as the candidate. The petition further stated that Mr. Hunye was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his ward (Tube Ward in the Ipokia Local Government Area) that was later ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee. The party argued that his suspension for alleged anti-party activities legally disqualified him from participating in any primary election.

Olajolo wrote in the petition:

“I write to bring to your urgent attention a grave threat to public peace and electoral integrity involving one Mr. Abayomi Hunye… The Subject has notoriously and unlawfully taken to the public domain… parading himself as the Governorship Candidate of our Party… I wish to state unequivocally that this claim is false, fraudulent, and a deliberate act of impersonation designed to mislead the public and destabilize the peace of Ogun State.”

The APC requested that the Nigeria Police Force immediately invite Mr. Hunye for questioning, prosecute him if warranted for impersonation and violations under electoral laws, and restrain him from making further public claims to preserve order within the state.
