President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recorded a landslide victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election held across Sokoto State on Saturday, polling 301,000 votes against zero secured by his opponent, Stanley Osifo.
The results were announced in Sokoto by the state Chief Returning Officer and Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto.
According to the governor, a total of 301,000 registered party members were accredited for the exercise, while all accredited voters successfully cast their ballots during the direct primary conducted across the state’s 3,991 polling units.
Declaring the results, Gov. Ahmed Aliyu said President Tinubu emerged winner of the APC presidential primary election in the state by securing all valid votes cast.
He described the exercise as peaceful, transparent and hitch-free across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.
The governor commended party leaders, stakeholders and members for ensuring the smooth conduct of the exercise, particularly acknowledging the support and guidance of former Sokoto State Governor, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
Ahmed Aliyu also praised local government collation officers and party officials for what he described as their diligence, fairness and commitment throughout the process, adding that the collated results would be transmitted to the national collation centre in Abuja.
Speaking after the declaration, the Sokoto State APC Chairman, Alhaji Haruna Sarkin Gobir Adiya, applauded party members and stakeholders for the peaceful conduct of the primary election.
The event was attended by prominent APC leaders, including former Governor Wamakko, Deputy Governor Idris Muhammad Gobir, Minister of State for Works, Barrister Muhammad Bello Goronyo, Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga, and other party chieftains.
