In a significant political realignment in Yobe State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded the defection of 293 groups from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Potiskum Local Government Area.
The mass defection, one of the largest in the area in recent times, was led by the PDP Chairman in Potiskum LGA, Alhaji Audu Hamisu, popularly known as “Soja Boy.”
The defectors were drawn from several grassroots groups, including Tora-Bora, Texaco, Sokol-Jigawa, Dorawa, Kabul, Kamfala, Old Kwata, Rasha and Big Soja.
Speaking while receiving the decampees in Potiskum, the Yobe State APC Chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Gadaka, described the party as inclusive and accommodating, attributing its growing strength to its broad-based appeal.
He commended the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni, urging the new members to contribute actively to the party’s success in future elections.
“The APC is a broad-based platform that offers equal opportunities to all members, irrespective of their background. I urge you to integrate quickly and work for the party’s victory in the forthcoming elections,” Gadaka said.
In his remarks, Hamisu said the decision to defect followed consultations and a review of the APC’s performance at both the state and federal levels.
He cited improvements in security, economic policies and grassroots development as key factors behind the move.
“After a careful assessment, we are convinced that our political future lies with the APC,” he said.
