APC Sweeps All 24 Chairmanship, 240 Councillorship Seats in Gombe LG Poll

Date:

The All Progressives Congress has won all 24 chairmanship seats and all 240 councillorship positions in the 2026 local government elections in Gombe State.
Chairman of the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission, Abdullahi Garba, announced the results on Saturday, describing the exercise as a major milestone following the expansion of the state’s administrative councils from 11 to 24.
Garba said the expansion became possible after Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya approved the creation of 13 new Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) to bring governance closer to the people.
According to him, the number of chairmanship positions increased from 11 to 24, while councillorship seats rose from 114 to 240.
He noted that although several political parties participated in the election, only the APC fielded candidates in all 24 councils. The African Action Congress contested in three councils, the Democratic Leadership Alliance in six, while the Youth Party, Zenith Labour Party and National Rescue Movement fielded candidates in three councils each.
“From the results received, APC has been declared winner of all the 24 chairmanship seats and all 240 councillorship positions,” Garba said.
The GOSIEC chairman commended political parties, election observers, civil society organisations, security agencies and the media for contributing to what he described as a peaceful electoral process.
