The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) have shared the spoils in the bye-elections conducted in Kano and Bauchi states, while the APC also secured victory in Gombe State.
In Kano State, APC candidate Hussaini Yusuf Datti was declared winner of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa State Constituency bye-election after polling 22,890 votes.
The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) came a distant second with 270 votes, followed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 108 votes. The Action Peoples Party (APP) polled 53 votes, while the Labour Party (LP) secured 39 votes.
In Bauchi State, the results showed victories for different parties in two separate constituencies.
APC candidate Yakubu Ali won the Disina State Constituency bye-election with 5,846 votes, defeating the Action Peoples Movement (APM) candidate, who scored 5,225 votes. The PRP came third with 3,701 votes.
However, in the Sakwa Constituency bye-election in Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State, the APM candidate, Adamu Yakubu, was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Returning Officer, Professor Muhammad Sabo of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare, declared Yakubu winner after he secured 8,515 votes.
The APC candidate polled 3,771 votes, while the PDP recorded 2,076 votes and the PRP scored 727 votes.
In Gombe State, APC candidate Kallamu Usman MaiJama’a emerged winner of the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency bye-election.
MaiJama’a secured 41,121 votes to defeat the Labour Party candidate, who polled 3,553 votes. The APM received 872 votes.
The bye-elections were conducted to fill vacant legislative seats in the affected constituencies.
The results therefore gave the APC victories in the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa constituency in Kano, the Disina constituency in Bauchi and the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe, while the APM secured the Sakwa constituency in Bauchi.
