All Progressives Congress (APC) youths from Makurdi/Guma federal constituency yesterday, protested the alleged imposition of Hon. Dickson Tarkighir as candidate of the party for Makurdi/Guma House of Representatives election slated to hold in February.

The protesters who stormed the party secretariat numbering over 100, carried placards with inscriptions “APC Guma/Makurdi rejects Dickson Tarkighir, says yes to Frank Utoo”, “Justice we stand for, give Frank Utoo his mandate”, “Waku, Akume, give Frank Utoo his mandate”, “Give Frank Utoo his mandate, he is the real winner!”, “APC not a dumping ground for cheap losers”, “Don’t impose PDP losers on APC”, amongst others.

Addressing the Benue State Deputy Secretary of the APC, leader of the group, Comrade Shighe Tyohen vowed that if Frank Utoo is not given his mandate as recommended by the National Assembly Appeals Panel, they would make sure that no APC activity takes place in Makurdi/Guma.

Another protester, Comrade Abah Isaiah explained that the protest was not only for the sake of Frank Utoo but meant to drive a point to the party leaders who have taken the decision to give “the mandate of Frank Utoo” to Dickson Tarkighir who he said is not even a member of the APC that it is not whatever they decide that will sail through. He said the youths are not in consonant with that decision under whatever guise.

Comrade Abah who quoted the famous Abraham Lincoln said “No man is good enough to govern another man without the consent of others,” adding that Dickson’s candidature is an imposition and should be revised for the good of the APC.

Responding, the Assistant State Secretary of APC in the state, Hon. Charles Vaseer, promised to convey their grievances to the party hierarchy for appropriate action.

He lauded peaceful conduct of the protesters and assured them that justice would be done at the end of the day.
