A group, the Arewa Integrity League has raised concerns about a purported deliberate media campaign aimed at discrediting key figures in Zamfara State.
In a statement issued on Friday, the group’s spokesman, Comrade Musa Garba, highlighted the need for caution regarding recent false reports linking Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal Dare, former National Security Adviser Aliyu Gusau, and Defence Minister Badaru to alleged criminal activities.
Garba noted that these reports center around Bashir Hadeja, a former aide involved in gold mining operations in Zamfara.
He emphasized that the recent feud within the Matawalle family, where Hadeja was a key player, should be seen in its proper context, and not as a reflection of the integrity of Governor Dare, former NSA Gusau, or Defence Minister Badaru.
The group pointed out that tensions between Matawalle and Governor Dare, along with former NSA Gusau, have been simmering for years, with recent developments further straining relations.
According to Garba, “These tensions might have contributed to the efforts to implicate these leaders in the unfolding scandal.
“We urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and not be swayed by misinformation.”
He praised former NSA Gusau’s sophisticated approach and highlighted Governor Dare’s commitment to improving Zamfara State, stating that efforts to tarnish their reputations are likely to fail.
The spokesperson stressed the importance of discerning the truth in the face of these media narratives, urging the public to stay informed and aware of the motivations behind such campaigns.
