The Arewa Renaissance Group, a socio-political organization committed to the advancement of Northern Nigeria, has issued a strong condemnation of a recent press statement by a coalition of Northern groups threatening to shut down federal highways. This warning was made in response to the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, which they demanded be reversed.
The coalition had previously announced plans to disrupt national transportation routes if their demands regarding the senator’s suspension were not met. The Arewa Renaissance Group expressed its discontent with what it termed an “unguided statement,” emphasizing that the coalition’s threats to paralyze economic activities over Senate matters are both selfish and unpatriotic.
In a statement released to the press, the Arewa Renaissance Group voiced its concerns: “We are alarmed by the coalition’s threat to shut down the country and block our highways. We stand at a critical juncture as a nation, and we must not allow self-serving individuals, who have taken to issuing press briefings, to further inflame our political climate.”
The group urged the coalition to handle its grievances with greater caution and allow for an amicable resolution of differences among the involved parties. “It is not our place to interfere in the affairs of two adults,” the statement continued. “What we seek is peace in our nation. Without peace, there can be no progress.”
Moreover, the Arewa Renaissance Group asserted its commitment to remaining above political squabbles that seek to manipulate public sentiment for personal gain. “We are not pawns to be used in advancing individual interests. We can see through the coalition’s charade, and when the time is right, we will demonstrate to Nigerians that we are proponents of any agenda that promotes peace, harmony, and progress,” they concluded.
As tensions rise within the political landscape, the Arewa Renaissance Group’s call for restraint and dialogue highlights the ongoing struggle for unity and stability in Nigeria.
