Arewa Media Summit: Kebbi Governor Tasks Journalists on Responsible Communication, Professionalism.

The Kebbi State Government has deployed a high-powered media delegation to participate in the 2026 Arewa Media Summit holding in Kano State, reaffirming Governor Nasir Idris’ commitment to promoting ethical journalism, responsible communication and media professionalism.

The Kebbi State delegation, which emerged as the second-largest at the summit, was led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, who represented Governor Nasir Idris, one of the Special Guests of Honour at the event.

The two-day summit commenced on Monday at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, under the auspices of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. It was organised by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Enlightenment, AbdulAziz AbdulAziz, in collaboration with the Kano State Government.

The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, delivered the keynote address on the theme: “Government-Citizen Accord: Accountability, Responsibility and Ethical Media Practice.”

Speaking at the summit, Governor Nasir Idris, who spoke through Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK said that Kebbi has every reason to celebrate the achievements of President Bola Ahmad Tinubu. He explained that of the 1000 kilometers of the Super Highway under construction from Illela in Sokoto to Badagry in Lagos, more than 250 kilometers are in Kebbi State. This he said is only a fraction of many projects which the federal government is undertaking currently in Kebbi State.

Dr Idris congratulated the conveners of the event, describing it as timely, noting that it would go a long way in strengthening the capacity of media practitioners and social media influencers on the need for objective, balanced and responsible reportage.

The Governor also commended the organisers for providing a platform that promotes dialogue between government and the media, while enhancing professionalism and ethical standards in the communication sector.

Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed also assured the organisers of the Kebbi State Government’s continued support on the “ Gani Ya Kori Ji” media tour and other initiatives aimed at promoting ethical journalism and disseminating accurate information on the achievements of the APC-led administration across the state.

The summit attracted participants from across Northern Nigeria, including media executives, Commissioners for Information, Special Advisers on Media, Publicity, Communication and Public Enlightenment, editors, broadcasters, bloggers, filmmakers, public relations practitioners, new media influencers and other communication professionals.

Members of the Kebbi State delegation include the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Yahaya Sarki; the Special Adviser on Communications Strategy, Alhaji Abdullahi Idris Zuru; the Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment and Orientation, Alhaji Ibrahim A. Jombali; the Special Adviser on New Media, Alhaji Aliyu Bandado; and the Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, among other Senior Special Assistants to the Governor.

The summit is focusing on ethical media practice, responsible journalism, national development, security, unity and strengthening collaboration between government and the media, while providing participants with a platform to exchange ideas on advancing journalism and public communication across the region.
