The Arewa Youth Vanguard (AYV) has cautioned against the imposition of emergency rule in Zamfara State, calling instead for decisive and lawful intervention from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and top security officials.
In a statement released on Thursday in Abuja by AYV Coordinator, Lawal Dantala Mani, the group voiced deep concern over what it described as a “misguided” call for emergency rule, warning that such a move risks further destabilising the state and eroding national security institutions.
“Calling for emergency rule is not the solution,” said Mani.
“It sows discord and undermines the credibility of our national security framework.”
The youth group criticised unnamed political actors, accusing them of exploiting the fragile security situation in Zamfara for personal and political gain.
They raised alarms about what they termed “political opportunism” amid widespread insecurity in several Nigerian states.
Of particular concern to AYV was the appointment of individuals lacking the requisite qualifications to strategic security and administrative positions.
“When individuals are driven by greed for power and excessive ambition, they risk undermining the very institutions they are meant to protect and serve,” Mani said.
“This is especially dangerous in matters of national security, where mismanagement can have dire consequences.”
The group urged the federal government to carry out a sweeping review of key appointments, ensuring that only competent and committed individuals are entrusted with roles critical to national stability.
AYV’s statement concluded with an appeal to President Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, and the Ministry of Defence to take swift and lawful steps to restore order in Zamfara.
They also called for a thorough investigation into allegations that senior government figures may be involved in misinformation campaigns aimed at manipulating public perception of the security forces.
“The government must be vigilant,” the statement read.
“Not only in restoring peace but in safeguarding the integrity of our institutions from those who would seek to undermine them from within.”
Zamfara State has remained one of the flashpoints in Nigeria’s ongoing struggle with banditry, kidnappings, and lawlessness, prompting growing calls for urgent federal intervention.
