The Nigerian Army has launched a renewed initiative to combat drug and substance abuse within its ranks, leveraging Islamic spiritual guidance to reinforce discipline and morale among soldiers.
The campaign was central to the opening of the Annual Training Week and Conference of the Directorate of Islamic Affairs, which commenced on Monday in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital.
The event, held under the theme “Soldier First Concept,” focuses on the critical role of Army Imams in producing a combat-ready force.
In his address, Brigadier General Usman Musa, Director of Islamic Affairs, Nigerian Army stated the conference is designed to align with the Chief of Army Staff’s philosophy of building a “well-motivated, combat-ready force.”
He emphasized that the Directorate’s mandate is to impart Islamic teachings on discipline, courage, and moral responsibility.
Brig. Gen. Musa also commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General O.O. Oluyede, for his “visionary and transformative leadership” and thanked the Yobe State Government and the Emir of Damaturu for their support.
