Benue State House of Assembly has frowned at the lingering strike by the Non Academic Staff Union of Universities, NASU, and Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU, Benue State University chapter.
The two unions, have been on strike to demand for promotion of their members which has not been done since 2018.
Raising a motion of urgent public importance during the House plenary on Tuesday, Majority Leader of the state assembly, Saater Tiseer lamented that despite efforts made by the house committee on Higher Education on two occasions to prevail on the unions to call off the strike, it fell on deaf ears.
He explained that the demands of the unions could only be met when the state governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia constitutes governing council of the institution.
Speaker of the house, Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh who decried the negative impact of the strike on students, parents and the state, promised to personally meet with the governor on the need to ensure that the strike is called off.
